OLED Lighting

What is OLED Lighting?

OLED lighting panels are composed of thin layers of organic material sandwiched between two electrodes. When DC current is applied, charge carriers from the anode and cathode are injected into the organic layers, electroluminescence occurs and visible light is emitted.
When complete, the OLED is actually thinner than a human hair!

Benefits:

  • As a solid-state lighting technology, OLED technology is readily compatible with control, dimming and sensor systems.
  • Consumes significantly less energy than standard lights.
  • OLED white lights have a naturally broad spectrum and excellent light quality.
  • OLED lighting devices emit light from the surface, creating even light distribution. The lighting panel may be flexible and, potentially, even transparent like a window or a reflective mirror.
  • OLED lights produce very low heat <35°C.
  • OLED lights produce very comfortable light with no glare.
  • OLED lights produce no blue light, which has been shown to be linked to macular degeneration.
  • OLED lights have excellent color rendition of >90 CRI
  • Thin, durable and lightweight. The technology provides fast switch-on times, wide operating temperatures and no noise.
  • Contains no mercury.

Glares and flickering from LED and fluorescent light sources can lead to a lot of problems like migraines, headaches and eye strain, causing discomfort and distraction. Studies have shown that compared to LED standards, OLED lights resulted in lower eye fatigue as measured by several biological metrics including dry eye.

OLEDs offer design elements unencumbered by heatsinks and optics, at low voltage, and with the superb, uniform light quality. In their native form, OLEDs are truly surface mountable with no need for large plenum or buildout. Integrated into fixtures, OLEDs expand material options from textiles to paper to metals and wood – giving designers true control over the experience. For more information, contact us today.
